Low-carb Diet – Tips to Fight Those Crazy Carb Cravings

Monday, January 25th, 2010

For most of us, daily life is very structured and consistent. We wake up, shower and get dressed, and hit the road for work. We put in our eight hours at work, taking breaks on regular schedules. We come home, make dinner, get the kids ready for bed (if we’re at that stage), then we have a few hours to ourselves.

This daily structure is actually very good for bodybuilding nutrition – most of the time. The consistent schedule of a work day is wonderful for getting in all of your bodybuilding meals on a regular basis. Breakfast is consumed at the same time every day, because you have to. Breaks give you a chance to drink a protein shake, and lunch and dinner are on the same schedule as well, dictated to you by your schedule. There isn’t much time to stray into junk food arena either, as that food typically isn’t available and there isn’t time to think about it – you’re just too busy.

Those hours in the evening are the most dangerous to bodybuilding nutrition. This lack of structure is wonderful for unwinding and enjoying life. But it also leads to boredom and the willingness to break from a diet and eat junk food, or to miss a meal entirely. Here are a few ideas for stopping the nighttime collapse.

Alternative snacks

It’s a good idea to have fat-free and sugar-free foods on hand for those times when night-time urges kick in. Snacking on them can help the urges pass. Don’t make them a regular thing though – they may interfere with sleep and provide empty calories you don’t need.

Schedule

If you can plan the first 12 to 14 hours of your waking day down to a tee (including meals), you can plan your relax time just as easily. You might even find you are able to enjoy more fun things every evening if you plan it out ahead of time.

Discipline

What is more important to you – possessing an incredible physique and reaching your personal potential for muscle mass and vascularity, or goofing off? Be strong, remain focused, and put all of your energy into reaching your bodybuilding goals.

But Why is My Diet not Working

Monday, January 25th, 2010

Jennifer, a middle-aged single mother with one six-year-old daughter, has been skipping sweets for a few weeks now. Shes also become a stickler for portion control. She feels as if shes eating less than ever, and shes been diligently exercising for an hour at a time at least four days a week. Yet, she hasnt lost a single pound. The question is, Why? This is a dilemma which affects dieters the world over. They think they are taking the steps necessary to lose weight, but nothing seems to be happening. In essence, they are trapped in a dieting rut and they dont know how to free themselves. As a result, they become frustrated and depressed and may then engage in binge eating. One of the problems with diets is that they are often standardized. As a result, they dont take into consideration your individual physiology and metabolism. They provide a cookie-cutter approach to weight lossan approach which may not work in your individual case. As a result, an increasing number of people are turning to dieticians to formulate a person weight loss strategy for them. This process has been made easier through the Internet, where you can correspond with a dietician any time of the day or night via e-mail. The dietician can also act as your personal coach, helping you through your dieting dilemmas. Another reason that you may be failing at your diet is because of a lack of support. You may have family members who can eat whatever they want and seemingly not gain a pound. As a result, they may fill your refrigerator with junk food, leading you into temptation. Also, you may feel as if you have no one to turn to in order to discuss your weight problems. In order to solve this problem, many individuals look to psychotherapists to help them with their food-related issues. This can be particularly important if an individual has turned to purging in an effort to combat their weight problems. Bulimia is a serious disease which must be treated in order to ensure the good health of the patient. Thankfully, there are a number of treatment programs throughout the U.S. specifically focusing on bulimia. Yet another reason for diet failure is hidden calories. You may literally be consuming calories and not even realize it. For instance, the frappucinos that are so popular today are loaded with caloriesas many as 600 in a single serving! You may also be indulging in sugary sodasanother source of extra calories. By taking a few simple steps, such as eliminating the exotic coffee drinks from your diet and substituting skim milk for whole milk, you may be able to eliminate the hidden calories that are denying you dieting success. Lack of consistency can also be a diet-killer. You might go on a diet for a while, then quit before youve made any measurable progress. Its only natural to want to see quick results. The problem is that healthy weight lose involves loseing only a couple of pounds a week. That means youll have to stay on your diet for months before you see appreciable weight loss. Discouraging? It can be, but if you keep a positive attitude you can achieve your ideal weight. You may also be more successful in your dieting if you consider it to be a lifestyle change. Therefore, your diet becomes a meal plan for life. This means that you must change the way you look at food. It is designed to be fuel for your body, and nothing more. As a result, you should not turn to food to make you feel better or to provide you with a sense of comfort. A lifestyle change implies commitment; it means that you are prepared to follow the plan for the long haul. If you feel as if you cannot be on your diet for any appreciable length of time, perhaps its time to consider a different diet. Your aim ultimately should be not simply to lose weight, but to become healthier. A fad diet will not allow you to reach that milestone. Therefore, you must choose your diet carefully.

Need Some Healthy Dieting Tips?

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

Summertime is here and many of us are in need of getting back on a healthy diet. The first step is to create a diet plan that you must adjust to right away. This article will discuss healthy dieting tips so that you can drop weight fast. You’re going to need to go through your refrigerator and clean out all the junk food and don’t forget to clean out the dry food storage as well.

On your next shopping trip to the grocery store you need to buy the low fat or non fat options when available. You can save many calories a day when you do this. Include a lot of veggies and fruits on your grocery list. Eat healthy! In between meals eat a low calorie snack. Some examples are a handful of almonds, a piece of fruit, or maybe some low fat yogurt.

Make sure to always drink plenty of water. Water helps flush out the food in your system. Drink one full glass before your meals and one full glass after your meals. This way you feel fuller so you don’t over eat. During dinner fill up on greens. Have a green salad before your entree. After dinner have a piece of fruit. Try and eat your last meal before 8 p.m. The key is to eat more times a day and to eat healthier foods.

Try and do some physical activity during the day. Diet is 60% and exercise is the other 40%. Try going to the gym 3 to 4 times a week and if you don’t have a membership go for a 30 minute walk or jog in your neighborhood. With these few healthy dieting tips I hope that you drop weight fast.

Do you ever have trouble finding that diet program that actually works? There is so many out there and believe me many of them are just scams; however I cam across this site that has done all of the work for us and narrowed down what plans really will work! Check it out here Healthy Dieting Tips. Also DietingGuideReviews.com has a couple of great tools, and get this… a free diet guide! 8 Health Tips to Get in Shape for the New Year!

Friday, December 11th, 2009

With the new year approaching, the first resolution most people think about going for is a gym membership. Year after year the same thing happens. They really want to get into shape, and they know for sure that this year will be different. They sign up for a year membership and start their new goal with clear focus and determination.

Most people never make it past the first week. Why? Mostly because they quit when they realize how much work goes into getting back into the shape they once had. The fact of the matter is that it really is not as difficult as they think. They are just focusing on one aspect of overall wellness and burning themselves out on it.

In order to lose weight and keep it off for good, a person must develop the mindset necessary for living a healthy lifestyle. There is much more to being healthy than showing up to the gym every day. In fact, exercise is only one-eighth of the total equation. If you really want to achieve personal wellness in 2009, forget the gym and focus instead on improving the following 8 categories of health.

Health Tips #1: Diet & NutritionYou already know the main reason you gained weight. Too many trips through the McDonalds drive-thru, late night snacking on junk food and poor dinner choices. You do not have to eat a diet of bland salads and yogurt, but you do need to limit the amount of trigger foods that you caused your weight gain. Replace your current American diet of high sugar, high-fat processed foods with those found in the produce and lean meat department as often as you can.

Health Tips #2: Nutritional SupplementsNow that our soils are more depleted of minerals than ever, and our farm animals are not fed properly, living a healthy lifestyle requires nutritional supplementation. I lost 70 pounds in 4 months and kept it off for over 15 years simply by drinking a soy-based protein shake for breakfast every morning and taking a few targeted vitamins. Why does this work? Because greasy bacon and runny eggs do not provide proper nutrition.

Health Tips #3: Fun & RecreationWhat makes you happy? Going to the movies? Ice Skating? Playing the guitar? Whatever it is, you must find time for it on a weekly basis (if not daily) in order to maintain good mental stability. Your activities and hobbies should not include junk food or alcohol. Going to the movies is watching the movie, not eating a tub of fatty buttered popcorn. Be happy with what you are doing without the unnecessary evils.

Health Tips #4: HydrationDrinking enough water throughout the day is the part of the equation that gets overlooked. People do not consider drinking as important as eating and it is! You should not be drinking soda or processed juices every day. Why? Because they deplete your body of vitamins and minerals while loading you up on sugar. Alcohol is even worse. Do yourself a favor and keep a water bottle with you at all times. Drink, drink, drink. I cannot stress this enough.

Health Tips #5: StressAnd speaking of stress, this is what happens when you do not allow yourself to have any fun in your life. This is just as important to living a healthy lifestyle as eating and drinking properly. Too much stress can cause major problems for your body. You only live once, so do not allow other people and events to get you so bothered and worried that you cannot live the lifestyle you deserve for yourself.

Health Tips #6: Unhealthy HabitsNot eating the wrong foods is just as important as eating the right foods. But unhealthy habits are not just about food, are they? Smoking and the use of other drugs, prescription or not, is probably the worst thing a person can do to their body. This is the only one you have! Take care of it. Alcohol is OK on occasion but not recommended on a daily basis to anyone interested in living a healthy lifestyle.

Health Tips #7: Weight ManagementHave you ever noticed that weight loss really is not the issue that people struggle with? Most everyone has lost weight at one point in their life. Keeping that weight off is the obstacle that most people can not overcome. Think about it logically. If you gained weight by eating twinkies, then lost weight when you stopped eating twinkies, do not go back to eating twinkies. The person who eats twinkies on occasion (not every day) does not struggle with weight fluctuation.

Health Tips #8: ExerciseYou knew this one was coming! It is totally possible to lose weight without exercising. I am living proof because my severe asthma prohibited me from doing it. The reason I can exercise now is because I got my body healthy through focusing on the other 7 categories. Once I began exercising, it only accelerated my weight loss and now helps to keep me lean. The key to exercise is not quantity but quality. A little bit every day will give you the best health benefits overall.

So there you have it! The 8 health tips to kick off the new year for a new you. Focus on improving each of these simultaneously as your one and only New Years Resolution and you will be on a successful path to overall wellness. Weight loss and poor health can be things of the past if you are just willing to make small changes on a daily basis.
